Hamam: a hint of the Arabian Nights

Warm water, a soft echo beneath a dome, light like tiny stars: in a hamam, the world outside can wait. There is a hint of the Arabian Nights in this stillness, and behind it a living bathing culture with a long history.

The Ottomans developed a culture rooted in earlier bathing traditions. Their hamams were places for cleansing and meeting others. A külhan, the furnace room, heated the water and rooms. Historic baths survive today: the operator of Sefa Hamam in Antalya’s old town cites a restoration in 1450. Its story reaches far beyond a modern spa visit.

The ritual begins with warmth. Wrapped in a peştemal, a light bathing cloth, you settle on the warm marble platform. A kese scrub with a special mitt follows, then a fragrant foam wash and warm water poured from a bowl. Afterwards, there is time to rest. Depending on the programme booked, an oil massage is an optional addition.

In Kemer, you can enjoy this special pause at Ottoman, Angel Hamam and Babel Hamam. Three lovely places, each with its own atmosphere and individual character. All three can be booked through us at Erendiz. Have questions or wonder which hamam would suit you best? Ask our team: we will gladly help you choose.
