Beycik: A Day on the Slopes of Tahtalı

Above the coast, the perspective changes. Beycik brings together mountain scenery, walking routes and the chance to spend a holiday day at a deliberately slower pace.

A change of horizon

As you travel from Kemer towards Beycik, you gradually leave the rhythm of the coast behind. The mountain comes closer, and the sea becomes part of a wider picture. A visit does not have to turn into a demanding climb to the summit. A stroll along suitable paths, a break and time to take in the landscape can be the aim in themselves. What matters is to see Beycik as a place in its own right, rather than simply the approach to Tahtalı.

A place in the mountain landscape

The district administration lists Beycik among the scenic upland settlements behind Kemer. The official walking-route description distinguishes between Beycik and the upper part of the settlement. This has practical importance for visitors: the place name alone does not identify a precise meeting point. A restaurant, accommodation and the start of a walk may all be in different places. If you are arranging a pick-up, always agree on the exact point. This small piece of preparation leaves more freedom for the day itself.

What the path reveals about the landscape

On the official Ulupınar–Beycik section, the Lycian Way climbs through Turkish pine forest. Above the settlement, it continues steeply to a pass west of Tahtalı. Shopping and overnight accommodation are described in upper Beycik. The village thus forms a transition between inhabited countryside and a longer mountain walk. The name Lycian Way refers to a modern walking route through a historic region; it does not prove that every waymark lies on an unchanged ancient road. A good story needs only what can actually be observed and understood: the terrain, supplies and the connections between places.

Past and present without an invented village legend

The region’s history tells of a coast whose accessibility and economy changed markedly during the 20th century. For Kemer, the municipality highlights development linked to the tourism project from the 1980s onwards. Today, a visitor can stay by the sea and visit a mountain village on the same day. This also changes the perspective on Beycik: it becomes part of a holiday landscape while keeping a different scale from the coastal resorts. The local sources consulted do not establish a specific medieval foundation or an unbroken history of ancient settlement. We therefore tell the well-documented story of routes and landscape.

Three ways to spend the day

For a quiet visit, we suggest an agreed viewpoint, a short circuit along suitable paths and a meal at a place confirmed to be open. If you want to walk, choose a stage that suits your experience, fitness and the weather. A route up towards the summit is another, considerably more demanding undertaking. The cable-car operator lists Beycik as a starting point in the mountain area. These options do not belong in the same itinerary. A family outing needs different paths and margins from a long ascent.

Preparation brings peace of mind

Even on a warm day by the coast, your plans should take mountain weather into account. Bring water, suitable shoes and an extra layer. For a walk, navigation, daylight, your return and a contact you can reach must all be settled. Do not assume a bus will happen to be waiting at the end of every stage. If you prefer to experience the scenery without prolonged exertion, a car service and a short stroll can make for just as fulfilling a day. The length of the route is no measure of the value of the outing.

From Erendiz to Beycik

Our bus guide explains connections along the coastal corridor. You will need an additional, agreed connection for the turn-off and the mountain road to Beycik. Talk to our team: we can help with a transfer, a suitable walking guide or a tailor-made tour. Combining the visit with Ulupınar is also possible if the driving time and the stops you want fit together. We help plan a day at your own pace.
